For this growing season, we have job openings for the following positions:

  • Greens Production Manager (main role, other responsibilities required as well) — Full time, term is up to you (2-7 months, see below for choices)

Full Time Farm Employee Position

  • General Information
    • Farming is rewarding but demanding work.
    • Required characteristics and qualities (see more below): Friendly, good attitude, independent work ethic, personally organized and able to stick to a schedule, and attention to detail are all essential
  • You have a choice between two optional work durations (one or the other, cannot do both):
    • Full season: April to October starting at $14-$16/hour
    • OR
    • Mid-season only: mid-late June to end of August, starting at $20-$22/hour
      • available for students and all applicants IF this option is better suited to your employment needs than the full season option.
  • Starting hourly wage depends on experience level (all wages come with room for raises as experience progresses, either throughout the growing season and/or from season to season)
    • Full season:
      • 0-1 growing seasons farming experience (must give reference for the farm, which we will call or visit): $14/hour to start
      • 2 or more seasons of prior experience on-farm: $16/hour to start
    • Mid-season only
      • 0-1 growing seasons farming experience (must give reference for the farm, which we will call or visit): $20/hour to start
      • 2 or more seasons of prior experience on-farm: $22/hour to start
  • Work timelines
    • For full season work (April to October):
      • Some work beginning in April (exact start date and hours are weather-dependent)
      • Full-time work (40 hours per week) beginning in May or June (weather-dependent)
      • Position will end in October (exact end date is weather-dependent)
    • Timeline for mid-season work (mid-June to August)
      • Full time work (40 hours per week), regardless of weather, beginning as soon as you start in mid-late June and continuing until the end of August
      • Work may go into September if you are available to continue and if we have hours available for you
    • Responsibilities
      • Learning — We will train you for the processes as our farm does them regardless of your level of experience.
      • Relearning — Our systems for doing things may change throughout the year if we figure out a better way.
        • If you do have prior experience, you will relearn the way we do things on our farm.
        • We are open to changing processes from your feedback and experience. Our farm's way of doing things are living systems that evolve over time.
      • Seeding: starting seeds
      • Planting: transplanting in the field, by hand or mechanically
      • Weeding: hoeing, hand-weeding, mechanical cultivation (not tractor-driven, manual hand-tools)
      • General crop maintenance: irrigation, bed turnover, soil amendments, and more.
      • Harvest and post-harvest: quality control, washing, bagging, processing, 
      • Customer service (only as-needed, this is not a required regular task for this position): farmers' markets, roadside farm stand, veggie box CSA pickups, possibly deliveries
      • Qualifications and Characteristics
        • Required:
          • Good working attitude and polite demeanor — we aim to foster a friendly and professional work environment and presence with our customers
          • Commitment: if you apply for this job, that means you plan to stay for the entire season
          • Reliability: if you apply for this job, that means you plan to show up and provide one month's notice before requiring planned time off (one week's vacation over the summer)
          • Able to remember and follow instruction
          • Open to constructive feedback, able to modify technique
          • Able to concentrate on repetitive tasks for extended periods of time, i.e. hoeing, harvesting, planting, etc.
          • Attention to detail
          • Efficient work ethic
          • Some heavy lifting on occasion, i.e. vegetable bins that weigh 20-40 pounds
          • Able to see subtle differences in colour (for harvesting crops at the appropriate time)
          • Able to withstand working in various weather conditions: heat, cold, sunny, rainy, windy, etc.
        • Assets — nice to have, but not required:
          • Own transportation - may be possible for carpooling to be arranged with payment for fuel
          • Prior customer service experience
          • Knowledge of vegetables
          • Farm work experience
      • Compensation
        • Hourly wage (see above) paid every two weeks via direct deposit
        • Bonus benefits — Free membership to our organic vegetables for you and/or your family when supply allows (which should be most of the time)
        • There is room for upward mobility, meaning more responsibility and higher compensation, over time.
